Music recognition and targeted advertising on social networking sites.
Fingerprinting is emerging as the key enabling technology for targeted advertising in music social networking. This is turning out to be the "killer app" for record labels in the social networking context. For example, when users upload music on social networking websites like Myspace and Imeem, the Mediahedge platform leverages Gracenote music recognition to identify the music so that the social networking website can show users advertising targeted to the type of music uploaded. The record company gets a percentage of the advertising revenue, and all four major music companies are participating in this scheme.
Music recognition in digital media devices.
Gracenote solutions work in digital media devices to help deliver a substantially improved user experience on Gracenote partner's devices and applications. Gracenote technologies can identify and recommend music and digital media, as well as deliver rich content, like biographies, discographies, news, and lyrics. For example, the Sony Ericsson® mobile handset can record a short clip of music playing and send it for identification to the Gracenote Media Database®. Using Mediahedge fingerprint technology, Gracenote sends all the relevant information about the song to the person requesting it, as well as options to download the music.
Media registration and monetization
IIP and Linking Media provide registration services to owners of music and video based on the Mediahedge platform. The media content is fingerprinted and registered in the Mediahedge database of fingerprints, which provides the basis for recognizing and searching media content on the web. The database is also the basis for various media monetization services. It can be accessed by media content distributors to determine whether user uploaded content includes copyright-infringing material, and allows content owners to set the rules of how their content can be used.
Monitoring music on more than 1900 radio stations and networks.
