Mediahedge fingerprint technology is able to accurately identify a content item, regardless of the level of compression (e.g. Divx, Xvid, Flash, H264, MP3, AAC etc) and distortion (speed change, back ground noise, over the air transmission) or interference in the transmission channel. It can identify content from excerpts as short as just a few seconds; 3 seconds for audio and 4.65 seconds for video.
Digital fingerprints are highly compressed when compared to the original source file (one fingerprint can be as small as 2 KB) and can easily be stored in databases for later comparison. Digital fingerprints cannot be used to reconstruct the original content.
